Polish border guards have found the bodies of three Chechen sisters - the youngest aged six - who died in the mountains on the border with Ukraine.
The guards found their exhausted mother on Thursday clutching a fourth daughter - a two-year-old - near the border.

They had been trying to enter Poland illegally. They had spent four days in the cold and wet, the woman said.

The bodies were found 1,100m (3,600 ft) up a mountain in the Bieszczady range. The girls were aged six, 10 and 13.

Thousands have fled Chechnya in more than a decade of conflict.

The mother and surviving daughter are now in hospital.

While all moslems of the world were celebrating the end of Ramadan month, Chechen Republic was in trance...)) Finally it happened yesterday and from this morning people walk from house to house with happy faces and the best wishes...

A strong earthquake has hit the Chechen Republic. No reports of damage or injuries have been immediately reported. The US Geological Survey says the quake hit around 1 p.m. Saturday and registered as a preliminary magnitude of 5.9. It was centered northeast of the Chechen capital, Jokhar (former Grozny).
Russian news agencies say it was felt throughout the North Caucasus. Interfax says the quake rattled Jokhar for more than 30 seconds.
Caucasus Mountain region sees occasional earthquakes. Most buildings are not reinforced against severe structural shocks and even small quakes can cause serious damage.

A strong earthquake reverberated through the Caucasus mountains on Saturday, killing at least four people and disrupting power supplies in the occupied by Russia Chechnya, reports said.

The quake, measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale according to Strasbourg observatory estimates, was felt in five regions of the North Caucasus and neighboring Georgia and Armenia.

The dead were found in Chechnya's east, four of them killed in the Kurchaloy district and the other in Gudermes, said Itar-Tass news agency, citing Chechen puppet vice emergency situations minister, Akhmed Dzheirkhanov.

One was a Russian invader who died when a wall collapsed, while at least 24 people were injured, said Russian news agencies, which added there were no reports of major damage.

Some 52,000 people from three Chechen districts were left without electricity, according to the Russian emergency situations ministry, cited by Interfax.

The American Geological Institute, which put the strength of the quake at 5.3 on the Richter scale, said its epicentre was 40 kilometres (25 miles) east of the Chechen capital Jokhar (fomer Grozny) and 10 kilometres underground.

In the Chechen city of Gudermes, residents who live in high apartment buildings left their homes briefly due to fear of aftershocks, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

In addition to Chechnya, the earthquake was felt in Dagestan, North Ossetia, Ingushetia and in the Stavropol region, and was also registered in Georgia and Armenia.

"The underground shock was quite strong, and people felt it in the streets of Vladikavkaz," a witness in the North Ossetian city was quoted by Interfax as saying.

In Tbilisi, Georgian Interior Ministry spokesman Shota Utiashvili said the earthquake was recorded near the Georgian border but said there had been no damage or injuries there.

In Yerevan, a spokesman for Armenia's seismology centre said two small quakes were registered in the north of the country, but no damages or injuries reported.
