Intern for Russia and the North Caucasus -- Washington , D.C.

Freedom House is an independent non-governmental organization that supports the expansion of freedom in the world. Our organization functions as a catalyst for freedom through its analysis, advocacy and action.

Our Washington , DC , office currently seeks an Intern to assist with developing activities pertaining to Russia and the North Caucasus .

Majority of work will deal with the Russian North Caucasus region and human rights issues. The intern will be responsible for researching and keeping abreast of current news and events in Russia and the North Caucasus and updating the American Committee for Peace in the Caucasus website (www.peaceinthecaucasus.org) accordingly. In addition, the intern will provide support to the project staff by assisting with program development, research, and daily administrative duties as assigned. Occasionally, work related to Eastern and Central Europe will be required as well.

The ideal candidate must possess the following:

* Interest in and knowledge of political developments in Russia and the North Caucasus , and human rights issues in particular.
* Ability to read and speak Russian language.
* Advanced level of proficiency in written and spoken English.
* Ability to research and use good judgment in information dissemination.
* Readiness to learn and work with Dreamweaver software a plus.
* College degree or graduate student with research experience.

A minimum commitment of 30 hours per week is required. The preferred start date for this internship is May 19th, 2008.
